If you've ever searched around for market research and competitive information related to the user experience and design of web sites within any industry, then you'll want to watch this space.

If you work on user experiences as I do, you may do this kind of research regularly to provide a competitive analysis document for each of your client's projects. The sad reality at the end of each project is that this data gets used frequently at the onset of a project, and rarely revisited. Worse than that, the output , by necessity is not shared outside of the project team. We individually have to re-compile this research repeatedly for each new industry we work in. Sure, there are a few resources out there that have done this for specific industries. But, all told, this kind of thing is time consuming to produce and what you find on the web is spotty at best.

But what if we as a design community could maintain a common repository for this competitive data? What if we could add richness to this resource by adding, removing, annotating, and sharing this information?

In the coming months, I'm going to experiment with a format on this site that provides a resource for helping others to make this kind of research publicly available and updatable by the community. It'll take some time, but I've gotten things started, so expect to see this feature trickle in as parts of it become available.
