standardimage provides an interesting single page, scrolling interface. The global navigation persists in a fixed position in the left of the page, and clicking on any of these links scrolls the user to that area of the page. You can just as easily scroll with the scroll bar as well. In some areas, you can pan horizontally, e.g. to see more images in the portfolio of work.
SugarSync is a product and service that keeps files synchronized across different computers, provides online and mobile access to files, and also provides a cloud storage facility. Their product site is well-organized and product description is clear and succinct, making it easy to understand immediately what the value of the product is, and how to begin using it. Calls to action (try, demo, buy) are clearly communicated on the front page, as well as on subordinate pages. Detailed information, as well as support forum is easily accessible to users who seek them.
Fi, the Stockholm/New York City agency that was formerly known as Fantasy Interactive built up its history by making glossy flash sites where nearly every element on the screen moved and had audio attached to it. The agency has matured over the years and uses Flash more selectively and strategically now, and the name change is meant to reflect that maturity.
The founder talks about usability as the thing that will characterize Fi in the future, and their clean site update reflects that. The site organization is easy to grok, and easily navigable, and projects a company with a bold and confident point of view. The screenshots, slideshows, and project reels of their work tell the story very effectively.
Represent Recruitment is a boutique career placement agency in London, UK serving professionals in creative design industries. The recruiter's site is a nicely implemented minimalist site that presents information with little fanfare. Navigation is very shallow, making content easy to traverse. One thing I think would work to this site's benefit is to move the job listings up in the hierarchy of pages and offer email notifications or RSS feeds of new jobs. Contrast of text is very low also because of the pale gray golor choice. Pages outside of their normal site, e.g. their "Join Us" and "Perfect Portfolio" are treated with bold colors and more casual layouts that really stand out from the base site, which is buttoned down and all business.
